The New Orleans Dental
Association, Inc. (NODA) is a voluntary membership

cohesive organization that serves its membership by
promoting the art, science, and professionalism of
dentistry and by communicating the value of oral health to
the community.
NODA supports members in
achieving and maintaining high standards of professionalism
and leadership within dentistry and our community through
locally-based continuing education programs, monthly general
membership meetings, involvement in state and national
legislative venues. Through local resources and our
partnership with the LDA and ADA, a wide variety of programs
and information have been designed to assist members in
creating and sustaining successful practices. |
The next scheduled General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. The meeting will be held at Café East Restaurant, 7:00pm at 4628 Rye Street, Metairie, LA 70006. (Phone: 504/888-0078, Website: www.cafeeastnola.com).
The speaker will be Jon Fundingsland. Mr. Fundingsland has been with 3M for more than 20 years and was in the research and development of many of 3M ESPE's restorative composite, ionomers, and adhesive materials. He was also involved with the technical support of each of these products. In addition, Jon has spent time within 3M's Professional Services Department working with many worldwide lecturing clinicians.
The topic of the lecture will be “Dental Materials: Behind the Scene”
Dental materials are changing, and both clinicians and manufactures are doing their best to keep up! During this presentation you will see both clinical and technical results with today’s restorative products. You will also get a glimpse as to how these materials are developed through close collaboration between manufacturer and clinician.
Objective #1 - Dental adhesives: We are now into our 7th generation of dental adhesives. Generations 4-7 are all available. When are certain generations appropriate and when are they not? What recommendations might be upcoming based on recent research? Techniques to reduce postoperative sensitivity will also be presented.
Objective #2 - Nanotechnology: Let’s look beyond the hype. What nanotechnology can offer to restorative materials, from adhesives to flowables to universals to glass ionomers.
Objective #3 - From a clinical perspective, layering techniques collected though collaborations with clinicians around the globe will be highlighted. Techniques designed to both reduce the effects of polymerization stress as well as optimize esthetics will be presented. While most techniques will feature 3M ESPE Filtek Supreme Plus, the techniques themselves would be appropriate to other esthetic composites as well.
Objective #4 - Future dental materials. New developments in both chemical and digital technology will conclude the presentation.
The sponsor of this meeting is 3M ESPE Dental Products. They are located in Houston, Texas. You can place a toll-free telephone call to 1-800-634-2249, Ext. 1 or visit their website at www.3MESPE.com for more information. Mr. Craig N.
