President’s
Message
by Laurie F. Moeller, D.D.S. - NODA
President

As we approach our Thanksgiving holiday, it is appropriate to acknowledge those in our organization who have served so unselfishly. I would like to begin with Andrew Hale, our executive director, and Normalee Ward, our New Orleans Dental Conference right hand woman! Both Mr. Hale and Ms. Ward keep the NODA wheels turning.
Our dedicated Board of Governors has also worked tirelessly to handle the business of our organization while striving to make improvements. Notable improvements are a new server, a new phone system and expanded office space. Dr. Kristi Soileau continues to keep us up to date with current events both locally, and nationally. Dr. Raymond Unland, Jr. has put us on a path to financial security and equally as important, has reorganized our financial record keeping system. And Dr. George Arch, Jr. has provided us with many interesting scientific programs. I received many favorable comments after last month’s general membership meeting and presentation on oral cancer screening and treatment. Interprofessional education is at the forefront of dental education. Drs. Paul Friedlander and Rizwan Alsam recognize this partnership and our unique training and ability to identify potential oral pathology in the earliest stages.
Our New Orleans Dental Conference committee must also be recognized for the excellent conference that they organized. Many thanks to Dr. Mark Chaney, past conference chair, Dr. Claudia Cavallino, present conference chair and Dr. Don Bennett, 2014 conference chair. Our conference continues to grow in size and quality thanks to the many devoted members of the conference committee.
In 2013, the American Dental Association will hold their Annual Session in New Orleans. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase our city and our southern hospitality. Many volunteers will be needed to put on a conference of this size. Please be generous with your time and talents.
And finally, a special thanks to our membership chair, Dr. Myrna Collado. NODA has thirty-seven (37) new members this past year. It has been a special pleasure to see the number of recent graduates who have become NODA members. We must continue to engage our newest dentists. Their enthusiasm and ideas will continue to foster the education and service to our community that is the heart of the New Orleans Dental Association.
