NODA News Interview
New Orleans Dental Enterprises (NODE) Goes Electronic!
By Kevin J. Collins, DDS, NODE President
ExtraDent, the makers of ClaimX (electronic insurance claims processor), has been a Preferred Provider through New Orleans Dental Enterprises (NODE) for NODA since 2009. If you want to save money, you should read this article and then check out ClaimX.
The following is an interview with Mr. Kemper Martin, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing with Extradent and Kevin J. Collins, DDS, President of NODE. Mr. Martin understands dental office management since his early involvement in developing PracticeWorks dental software.
Tell me about Extradent.
ExtraDent is a group of professional developers with a combined experience of over 55 years in the field of electronic processing and the development, support, and maintenance of dental software. Members of the ExtraDent group were part of the original development of PracticeWorks, a dental practice management software. They left the company in 2003 and founded ExtraDent. ExtraDent is the developer of ClaimX.
What is ClaimX?
ClaimX is an electronic insurance management system that interfaces with practice management systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and Practiceworks. The ClaimX, a software management system, will send your dental insurance claims electronically. ClaimX can interface with as many as fifty-seven other software management systems available in the marketplace today.
Is that all that ClaimX does?
NO! ClaimX will print claims, store NPI numbers, check claim status, send eligibility requests, receive responses electronically, manage claims with Watchdog, and integrate with NEA for electronic attachments (i.e. digital radiographs, periodontal charting). The above services will help you run your office more efficiently and save on staff time and the cost of claims processing.
What is NEA?
NEA stands for National Electronic Attachment, Inc. This is an electronic clearinghouse used by electronic processors regardless of the management software to submit claims with any type of electronic media attachment. Attachments are digital radiographs, periodontal charting, narratives, EOBs, lab reports, doctor notes, or any other document required to process a claim. Medical and dental claims must use NEA, Inc. or a competing service in order for the media to be attached to the insurance claim. Your current processor charges or incorporated that fee into your agreement. ClaimX does partner with NEA, Inc. for this service at a low monthly fee.
The BIG question is: why should I switch to ClaimX?
Number one, MONEY! If you have to ask yourself, would I like to pay 25 cents an insurance claim versus paying your current practice management software company’s 45-55 cents per insurance claim? Second, do I want the same services that the others provide, but cheaper? Lastly, do I want the added services/features that this company provides that the others don’t at no cost? If you answered yes to one or all the questions, ClaimX is a no brainer!
Answer the next list of questions together:
Do I need Internet access? - Yes
Does ClaimX work with my current practice management system? - Yes
Can I send Medicaid claims? - Yes
Can I call support if I have a question? - Yes
Can I submit digital radiographs and periodontal charting? - Yes (NEA, Inc. is required)
WOW! There is more:
Are there any contracts? No
Are there any set-up fees? No (waived-$250 fee now free!)
Are there any charges for installation, training, or support? No
If I wish to stop using the service, is there a cancellation fee? No
Again, what is the fee per claim? 25 cents
How do I get started?
Important: NODA members should use promo code KCI6449 and specify that you are a member of the New Orleans Dental Association.
Signing up is as easy as 1-2-3. Fill in the information/contact form, fax, and receive the ClaimX Welcome Package via USPS. An ExtraDent representative will call you and schedule a convenient installation/training session with you and your dedicated staff member(s).
NODE can provide you with the ExtraDent/ClaimX form several ways. You can download the form from the NODA website, www.nodental.org, in the Preferred Provider menu under ExtraDent or pick up an ExtraDent/ClaimX brochure from the NODA office. The form and contact information is in this brochure. Previously, the brochure has been sent to your office and has been presented at past NODA functions. You may have seen it, but didn’t realize the potential savings the service could provide!
Lagniappe:
If you are a young dentist starting out or an older dentist who feels the expense of a software system is not justified, there are ways to utilize this service and make your operations more efficient. You first need a NPI number, the Internet and computer for your office!
National brands of practice management software can be expensive and confusing to computer neophytes. There are free dental practice management dental softwares available. They are basic. If you want or may need customer service for these free dental softwares, customer service is available from these companies for around a thousand dollars a year. This is a way to modernize/equip your office but without the major expense. NODE will make this information available upon request.
Important words from the New Orleans Dental Enterprise, Inc:
The NODE, Inc. is YOUR Company. The function of NODE, Inc. is to provide you with a products or services that are potentially helpful to you and your business. NODE generates royalties from all of the Preferred Providers in effort to offset expenses that occur at the NODA central office level so that dues dollars can be use more effectively. The Preferred Providers are scrutinized but feedback is essential from the member dentist!
